Airtel picked as one of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus distributors in Africa

Apple has picked Airtel Africa as one of the key operators in its distribution strategy for its new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Apart from Kenya, Airtel will start selling the new devices in its shops in 16 other markets across Africa ‘in a matter of weeks’, according to source who did not want to be mentioned because of the sensitivity of the matter. This means that official iPhone and iPhone 6 Plus may hit the market by early to mid-November 2014.
Sources indicate that the mobile device will approximately cost between Kshs. 100,000 and Kshs. 150,000 and will be available in the country before the end of the year.

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are much thinner than the 5s, at 6.9mm and 7.1mm thick, respectively, compared to the 7.6mm iPhone 5s. The glass front of the iPhone 6 curves around the side, and each model features an anodized aluminum back. Its camera features a ring that protrudes a bit from the back of the device, but it doesn't really take away from the incredible thinness of the phone.

With the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple has upgraded the displays to what they are calling Retina HD. The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 has a resolution of 1334 by 750, with a pixel-density of 326 pixels per inch (ppi); the 5.5-inch 6 Plus goes full HD with a 1920 by 1080 display and a whopping 401 ppi. Apple says both versions are covered with "ion-strengthened glass," to make the iPhone 6 less susceptible to drops and scratches.

Apple iPhone 6 was launched globally in mid-September and is now available in more than 20 markets in the world.

According to Apple, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in a total of 69 countries and territories by the end of October 2014 and are on track to be available in more than 115 countries by the end of the year, making this the fastest iPhone rollout ever.
