afb announces a three-year sponsorship deal for Mulleys Machakos Half-Marathon

Consumer and business finance company, afb has today announced KShs 600,000 sponsorship deal for the fourth edition of the Mulleys Machakos Half-Marathon.

The marathon event, which is expected to attract more than 4,500 participants is scheduled to take place on October 5th, 2014 at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County with participants crossing through the Machakos Peoples Park.

Afb’s sponsorship fee will contribute to the staging of a world-class running event, prize money for the winners, administrative costs and on-the-ground publicity campaigns.

Speaking during the launch of the ceremony held in Machakos County, afb Head of Cards-Kenya, Mr. Julian Mitchell said that the company is very proud to be associated with nurturing of athletics talent in Kenya by supporting a strong and empowering platform for the growth of youth talent through such initiatives as the Mulleys Machakos Half-Marathon.

“As a responsible company, we would like to play our part in encouraging the next generation of Kenyan runners. afb believes in the power of sport and the benefit regular exercise adds to people’s lives, productivity and a sense of well-being,” said Mitchell.

The Mulleys Machakos Half-Marathan will be headlined by Caleb Ndiku, who is the current reigning 5000m Africa Champion, 2014 Commonwealth Champion and 5000m Diamond league title holder.

Receiving the sponsorship cheque from afb, Mulley’s CEO Mr. Kevin Mulei thanked the company for its contribution towards the Mulleys Machakos Half-Marathon which will go a long way towards nurturing athletics talent not only in Machakos County, but the country at large.

“This is a very competitive and a compassionate race as part of the proceeds will go towards sponsorship of education for children who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS pandemic, through Tumaini International Organization, a local Non-Governmental Organization which endeavors to impact on the lives of needy children,” said Mr. Paul Mwendwa, Country Director Tumaini International organization.

Since its inception, Tumaini has made a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of families living with HIV/AIDS. So far, the organization has supported about 1,500 children, with over 1,200 still in the program.

The Mulleys Machakos Half-Marathon will also be sponsored by Coca Cola, Airtel, Hot point, Alpha Grain Millers, Machakos County government among other sponsors.
