China Trade week expo opens in Nairobi

The China Trade Week expo opened in Nairobi today with over 150 Chinese companies showcasing their products and services across various commercial sectors to Kenyan entrepreneurs and the region’s business community.

Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Deputy Chief Executive Office Ms Nemaisa Kiereini, MIE Events Managing Director Mr David Wang, CCPIT Deputy Director General Mr Wu Yanguang, Commercial Councellor at the China Embassy Mr Guo, and KenInvest General Manager Investment & Promotion Mr Pius Rotich, cut the tape to mark the opening of the Kenya Trade Week in Nairobi.
The three-day exhibition organized by MIE Events, in partnership with Kenya Investment Authority (KenInvest), Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), is the first comprehensive China-focused trade event to be hosted in Kenya and the East Africa region.

Speaking when he officially launched the exhibition, Pius Rotich, Ag. General Manager, Investment Promotion & Business Development Services, KenInvest said the China Trade Week will go a long way towards in opening more investment opportunities for local entrepreneurs and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) not only in Kenya, but also in the East African region as whole.

“As a frontier destination and emerging market, Kenya and the region provides rewarding business prospects for companies to propel their businesses to the next level. Therefore, I would urge our partner members to take advantage of the 3-day exhibition to develop and cultivate long-lasting business opportunities and partnerships with companies in China,” said Dr. Ikiara.

The exhibition brings together Chinese companies across various industry sectors including building and construction, consumer electronics, electric vehicles, plastic molding equipment and materials, home electrical goods, green energy solutions, portable housing solutions and elevators system.

MIE Events, Managing Director, Mr. David Wang said: “Over the years, China has enjoyed a long-standing economic and trading relationship with Kenya with over 15% of all of the country’s imports coming from China. We strongly believe that this exhibition will provide an opportunity for Kenyan entrepreneurs to grow strong business partnerships with Chinese companies.”

On the side-line of the exhibition, the organisers have lined a number of workshops for the three days between 11am and 2pm. The workshops will be aimed at offering tips to those keen on sourcing wares from China.

“In addition to providing local businesses with the opportunity to interact with the Chinese manufacturers, the China Trade Week will also offer ‘Sourcing Workshops’ designed to provide participants with the requisite tools and knowledge to source for products and services from China,” said MIE Events, International Director, Gary Robinson.

The three-day event is designed to provide Chinese companies with a unique opportunity to meet, discuss and develop trading and business partnerships with both Kenyan entrepreneurs and the region’s business community across various commercial sectors.
