AFCON top moments on Twitter



It was an exciting and intense night of football in Equatorial Guinea, but the festivities not only took place in Estadio de Bata. Millions around the world, including players, took to social media to share their despair and excitement.

Twitter is looking back on the moments that caused the biggest spikes in conversation on the platform during the final game on Sunday 8 February 2015, where the Elephants beat the Blackstars in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The three most tweeted about moments during the match were Boubacar Barry scores to leave Ivory Coast as Champions, 9-8 in the penalty shootout, Tallo missing Ivory Coast's second penalty, leaving Ghana leading 2-0 and Ghana's Acheampong missing their fourth penalty, giving Ivory Coast a chance to tie the shootout.

The most mentioned team members on Twitter were Ivory Coast’s Gervinho, Yaya TourĂ© and Boubacar Barry, Ivory Coast’s goal keeper. Also mentioned from Ghana were, Andrew Ayew, Ghana’s manager Avram Grant and Ghana’s Kwesi Appiah.
